In a good mood today! It's Friday. I'm off for the weekend looking forward to family, doggies, and writing. My youngest decided on her college. I'm thrilled for her! A new era in her life is dawning.

Thinking back to my college days. Would I have done things differently? Should I? Honestly, I don't think so. I'm a firm believer that things happen for a reason. I believe everything that we go through leads us to where we need to be. Life is a journey with many valleys and peaks.

I have been fortunate. I'm surrounded by a family that loves me. I have always been. I was thinking back to when I was younger growing up in the rural hill country of Northeast Mississippi. I grew up surrounded by cotton fields, green pastures, and the finest people you would ever want to met. My father, God bless his soul, taught us right from wrong, but he also taught us (my siblings and I) to be compassionate souls.

Growing up in the rural back roads, my siblings and I only had each other at most times especially during the summer months. My older sister, Laura, was like the queen bee. She would order us about and was always so worried about getting into trouble. Now that honor lay with my younger brother, Gary, and I. We were the ones that constantly got into trouble. You know the kinda trouble I'm talking about like when Momma told us to watch our youngest brother, Greg, while we were playing outside. Then telling our trusting brother that we were playing cowboy and Indians and he was the cowboy. Okay, tying him up to the tree wasn't the brightest moment in our lives, but it was better than the time we told Greg to jump from a moving dune buggy. Well, what can I say? Momma said to take him down to our Grandmother's. If you stopped the dune buggy, it wouldn't start back up without jumping it off. It wasn't our fault he leaped on the pavement. Told him to jump on the grass...

It is one of those moments, we laugh about now. But I think the moment I remember most growing up was a beautiful summer day. Nothing special going on. I was ten. The sun was out and my cousins were down to visit. Everyone was so excited about something, but I hadn't a clue what...until I was called into the living room. Now we were never allowed in the living room. The 'good' furniture was for company. So to be called into the living room was totally unexpected. I didn't notice that my siblings and cousins had followed me in to find my parents in front of the most beautiful piano with a huge red bow on it. My parents out of the blue gave me what I most desired at the time. All the more special because I never expected it. We weren't poor but money was scarce. Everyone was so excited for me. It is a moment I cherish in my heart forever.

Everyone celebrated with me because that's what family does. Even now being so far away from them, it takes only one phone call. My daddy raised us right, you know. Greg is a fine man-the kind of man that would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it and not have another one to put on. My sister, Laura, served as County Attorney for twenty years. And my brother, Gary, well...he's a preacher man. Yes, my brother is a preacher. He works with underprivileged kids to help see they have a better life. Good people.

But there are good people everywhere. Today for some reason I'm remembering things I haven't thought about for quite a while. There was a time years and years ago when I was coming back up North with my kids after visiting my family without my husband. We were stuck on a plane on a runway in Atlanta. It was a hot summer day with the usual thunderstorms delaying our departure. Then they turned off the air conditioner on the plane. Before long, it was sweltering. I was sitting with my kids: my oldest probably around 7; my youngest a year and a half. Suddenly out of the blue, my youngest started throwing up. It was everywhere. I tried to get to the bathroom with her and she started throwing again. Here we were on a runway going no where, sweltering and my baby is throwing up over everyone. Do you know not one person said a word of complaint? Not one word. Instead everyone helped me.

It doesn't take much for a kind word or deed to make a difference. You know what I remember most about my mother-in-law when I met her. She was always driving some elderly neighbor back and forth from either a doctor's appointment, hair dresser or grocery store. She knew everyone in her neighborhood and everyone knew her. That compassion was passed on to her son. My hubbie- he's a good man. No one I know has a better heart.

I think back in my life on what I have done. Oh, there are some moments that blare out at me like the time I caught a burglar stealing from my neighborhood's house. Wanted in seven states, huge drug ring. The police department in the town where we lived at the time got an accommodation for the arrest. Something like that usually didn't happen. They caught him red handed with 3 other houses he had stolen from and a stolen van. What did I get at the time? When the story came out in the paper, I was 'neighbor'...which was just fine with me. I will have to tell the whole story another time. Funny, I have still have the papers. When I die, someone is going to wonder why I kept those papers. No one will figure out that I was the neighbor in the story. But I kept it any way.

I have tried to live my life in that manner. I have never, ever done anything intentionally to be mean. My daddy told me  'live your life so you can look at yourself in the mirror every morning.'

I'm not perfect..far from it. I would never try to put myself on a pedestal. Can't it's a long way to fall, but no matter what anyone thinks about me, no one can ever say I harmed another. Instead I've done my best to help any that needs help.

Today's blog is a thank you to a group of good people. They will know who I mean. I can't say exactly what I've been going through in my writing at the moment, but the experience hasn't been pleasant and no one should have to endure an injustice. But no one said life was fair.

I believe everything happens for a reason. This too. I just wanted everyone to know I will never forget the kindness extended to me.

So I will end Daughter of Deceit. I love the new cover. I love the book. I would love for you to review it.

The thought just hit me about how my daddy would have handled my situation I'm facing now. I could hear him now.  "Hold your head up high! It's the best damn 2 star book ever written!"

Have a great weekend!

Patriot Secrets...Spies and Thrillers

Yesterday was a beautiful day here in New England. It was, I didn't get much writing done. I went out with my doggies and ended up pulling weeds out of one of my gardens. I should have put my gardening gloves on, but you know how it is. You're out in the sun. You see one little weed. I thought I don't need my gloves for one little weed, but I didn't stop with one. I ended up cleaning up the whole of the garden. Felt good to be outside. Felt good, except now I have blisters on my hands. My own fault.

Something else is my fault. Patriot Secrets did really well free. My publisher pulled it off Free after it peaked at #32 free kindle. It started to decline so she pulled it. Should. I feel it was a good move. Want it to go out on free high. You can always put it back on free and then off again. At the moment I'm writing this its #45 in paid kindle for Spies Stories and Tales of Intrigue and #54 in Books in Spies Stories and Tales of Intrigue.

Spies Stories and Tales of Intrigue...the perfect category for Patriot Secrets. Perfect because it is exactly that...a spy story...full of intrigue. In all the time Patriot Secrets has been released, I never thought to promote it as a spy story or thriller. That's my fault.

I never thought when I began writing that so much would go into creating a book. The easy part is writing. The hard is catch the eye of reader. The good news...Patriot Secrets now has found its home where it should have been all along!

So if you're looking for a tale of intrigue, mystery, history, and romance, take a look at Patriot Secrets. It won't disappoint!

Amazon Select and Patriot Secrets!

My publisher, Wild Child Publishing, put my book, PATRIOT SECRETS, into Amazon Select! Patriot Secrets is free until Sunday night. At the moment, Patriot Secrets is # 1 in Historical Romance, #1 in Spys, # 3 in Thrillers, #45 in Free Kindle!

So excited because I love this book. It's my mother's favorite book of mine. Patriot Secrets would be considered historical fiction, not really historical romance in the true sense of the word. Oh, without a doubt a love story centers the story. A forbid love- a love that Hannah can't deny- yet if you have read any of my books, you know that I write to my own drum...I mean story. The story takes me.

One of the elements of most of my books is that I center my story around a strong heroine. Most of the time I write series, the exception was Daughter of Deceit. Patriot Secrets is part of Winds of Betrayal Series. Whereas Patriot Secrets introduces us to two siblings, Hannah and Jonathan, Hannah's story is the centerpiece of the book. She is the one in the midst of the spy ring. The next book in the series, The Ruse of Love, will focus on Rebekah Morse. She is mentioned briefly in Patriot Secrets.

I wrote a book, a long book, called Before the Sun Sets. To sell the book, I had to break it up into two parts (does this sound familiar- The Judas Kiss and The Promise in the Tides of Charleston series). The difference is that I broke up the book myself. The result was Patriot Secrets. I've always had the first draft of Winds of Betrayal, the second half of the original book. The problem to me when I sat down to revise Winds of Betrayal something was missing, a key element...

One of the first lesson I learned when writing was show...don't tell.  In Winds of Betrayal, I had Jonathan returning north having served in the Southern Campaign. Within the book, you discovered what happened to Jonathan during that time, but to be connected to his story I realized I had to fill in the missing pieces. I couldn't just tell you...I had to show you...I had to write The Ruse of Love. The first draft is complete. I have to edit it with lots of revisions. Then onward to the completion of the series where everything climaxes- explodes- in The Winds of Betrayal.

My hope is to have The Ruse of Love released before Another Night Falls with Whiskey Creek Press in September. Not a must, but it's my goal.

At the moment, though, my attention is on Patriot Secrets. I hope it can maintain its numbers. I was so happy when it appeared on Ereaders News Today first thing yesterday morning. I love Ereaders News Today. I would highly recommend the site to anyone who is looking for a free book especially the ones on the Amazon Select.

Still haven't received my proof for Whispers of a Legend, Volume I. Probably a good thing since I have so much going on. Expecting my edits back on Daughter of Deceit any day now! I'll be so happy to get it set and start promoting it again.

On a side note, whose going to see Hunger Games? It's finally going to be released.  I want to go this weekend, but don't know if I'll get to. Loved the book.

All good...have a good one!

Exciting Week! Novel Works and Free Books!

Starting this week- MARCH 21-25th! PATRIOT SECRETS will be free on Amazon!

I'm so excited. It's one of my favorite books. I love the history behind the American Revolution! Patriot Secrets - I'm so proud of this book. It's historical fiction- intriguing storyline- loosely based upon the Culper Spy Ring. Patriot Secrets was only the being. The Winds of Betrayal Series is continuing. THE RUSE OF LOVE should follow sometime this summer with THE WINDS OF BETRAYAL to close out the series next year!

Let you in on a little secret. My last book in the Tides of Charleston series, Another Night Falls, has characters in it from Patriot Secrets....  Get your copy and let me know what you think!

In the midst of the struggle of America's bid for independence, Hannah Corbett makes a fateful decision, descending into a world of deceit. Spurred by revenge, she heads to New York, setting in motion a dangerous game for which there is no return. Searching desperately for the man who betrayed her family, she faces the cold and brutal reality of the life of a spy. Caught in a web of lies, living with betrayal, she is trapped. She has nowhere to turn except to a man it would be treasonous to love, setting duty and desire at war. Her heart is ripped apart when she must choose between the man who risks his career and life to protect her and the only thing that has remained constant in her life...her belief in her cause.

TODAY (Sunday, March 18th) is the last day- DREAMSCAPE - will be free. Not the numbers of Daughter of Deceit, but respectable. At the moment it's number #4 in Free Suspense, #7 in Free Thrillers, #24 in Free Mystery and Thrillers and #173 over all in Free ebooks. It went all the way up to #112 in Free ebooks. Not bad...not the numbers of Daughter of Deceit, but Dreamscape hasn't been on any of the major sites (Pixtel or Ereaders News)...not one. I hope Patriot Secrets is able to get on the sites. I have done all I can do...just keeping my fingers crossed.

As for my Tides of Charleston Series...I got a glimpse of my new cover for THE PROMISE! Oh, I can't wait to show it to you! It's absolutely breathtaking. Gemini Judson has done it again. Makes me excited about the book. At the moment, THE JUDAS KISS is still only $.99 over on Whiskey Creek Press in celebration of their birthday.
Contest coming....for April. Might even begin it this week so to include Patriot Secrets. I want to celebrate my first book in print. WHISPERS OF A LEGEND, VOLUME I.  All three books, Shadows of the Past- The Path Now Turned- Vision of Destiny- under one cover! I'm just waiting on proofing the book. Also, Daughter of Deceit's edits should be back by the end of the week. Then NEW COVER and republish too will be released in print!

So what kind of contest...I like easy contest-don't you? What about a $50 gift certificate to either Barnes and Nobles or Amazon. Sound good. Oh, whatever could anyone do to enter?
I think comment, comment, comment would be a great. It won't matter to what post or blog posting. I  think I'm going to include Novel Works. I might even go back a week. Astraea Press did such amazing job on Novel Works- best numbers ever!

This week on Novel Works- I have my friend, Cate Masters coming in with a group of her friends- ROMANCE, ROMANCE, ROMANCE this week.

Come on by- great week- leave a comment for a chance to win- just make sure I can get back in touch with you if you win (on Facebook not an issue can message- here though might be good to leave an email)! Thanks guys! Have a good one!

Today through the 18th- DREAMSCAPE- is FREE on Amazon!

My first backlist book republished as an Indie! When I decided to retitled Dream Walker, I was thinking out loud about maybe Dream Escape. My husband suggested Dreamscape. What do you think? I like it. It's his second suggestion about my writing I took. He came up with the Tides of Charleston series name also. The reasoning behind the Tides of Charleston...the connection between England and Charleston during the American Revolution. The tides would bring the ships into harbor. Thus the Tides of Charleston name! Here I was thinking he never paid attention to my ramblings!

Working hard pulling together Whispers of a Legend, Volume 1. GX has put together a great cover. He surprised me with a difference that I love. Can't wait to show it to you. Shouldn't be much longer.

Okay, I'll admit I have been engrossed in my writings, book releases and promotions. Over on Novel Works this week, it's having one of its best week ever. Astraea Press has done a tremendous job. What a great group of authors! I have to say that I don't know who their cover artist is, but what beautiful covers. Expecting my best numbers on Novel Works. The authors certainly used Facebook to their advantage. I have always tried to tell groups that the more interaction the more exposure. Astraea Press has certainly set a standard. Great job!

Around my house, my son's poor doggie, Dexter, got Lyme disease. He went in for his yearly heartworm test. I guess now they test for Lyme disease too especially where we live. He had it! The poor thing. He wasn't showing any signs and his titer although high wasn't over 200. Don't know what else we could have  done- he had the vaccine and Frontline. Although if the truth be told, I probably wasn't as aggressive putting Frontline on during the winter and we definitely didn't have a normal winter this year.

But on a good note, my youngest thinks she has made up her mind up about college. Her first choice was ODU. When she got her acceptance, she hesitated, but yesterday she told me that she was going to go to ODU. Although I don't know what I will do without having her close to home, I think if that's what she wants she should go for it. Life's too short to hesitated.

I'm so happy we decided to take the family trip to Ireland this summer now too. I said at the time it probably be the last time we could have the whole family together. Life is going to take them in their own direction. It's as it should be. So, I'm going to end on that note. Have a good one! And don't forget to get your copy of DREAMSCAPE. It's free!!!

My Amazon Select Books

Back in 2008, I released my first book by Wild Child Publishing- Dream Walker. I had such dreams before it was published. I was so naive. I thought it would just magically sell itself. I found out its quite different out there in the world of publishing. Writing a book is the easy part. Promotion...a whole different ballgame. Now I've taken it a step further and went Indie...

Amazon Select has allowed me exposure. For the first time in my writing career, I can see the possibilities of making money with my writing. Back in October, I released Whispers of a Legend and over on Barnes and Noble, I collected a small following which I greatly appreciate. I sold more copies of my book than I ever had with my traditional publishing. I found a sense of satisfaction with the reviews. The readers have been too kind to me with Whispers of a Legend over on Barnes and Noble.

Because of the readers on Barnes and Noble, I released the third installment through Smashwords. I admit there was a draw to pull all of Whispers back and release it under Select. The I have held back at the moment. Not to say I won't put Whispers on Select at some point...maybe the fall before I come out with Whispers IV. I couldn't do it at the moment, because I want everyone who waited patiently over on Barnes and Nobles the opportunity to get the third installment. At the moment, I putting together the manuscript to put Whispers of a Legend, Volume I out in print. Whispers of a Legend, Volume I will hold all three books. So when or if I pull Whispers, the print version would still be offered. That sounds fair. I hope so. Love my fans on Barnes and Noble.

As I mentioned above, my first book Dream Walker- I got the rights back. So what did I do? I renamed it, revised it a tad, and got a beautiful cover. I released it yesterday! It will be free this coming week- March 14-18th.

So in a span of a week, I added two books to my list of Indies (and one off the list of traditional). I'm going through with my edits that the marvelous Faith Williams did for me on Whispers. First I'm reposting the revised version on Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Smashwords.

This week- don't miss out on Dreamscape. It will be FREE March 14th-18th! Then don't be surprised to find that Patriot Secrets with Wild Child Publishing will follow March 21-25th FREE! I have always felt that Patriot Secrets is my best book...which you will see the sequels coming soon.

As for Daughter of Deceit... I am bound and determined to succeed with this book. I have a great new cover by Calista Taylor. It's in the midst of edits. As soon as the edits are complete (which I've been told won't be until around the 23th) I will put up the new cover and revision and it will go free again!

This week on Novel Works I have another publishing house, Astraea Press, coming in...Suzanne G. Rogers group of friends! Suzanne's a great author. She has a young adult series you may remember The Last Great Wizard of Yden.

Whiskey Creek Press' Authors are coming to Novel Works!

Next week, March 5th- 9th, WCP authors are invading Novel Works in Celebration of WCP's 9th Birthday! Over on WCP the celebration is all month long. They are selling nine books for $.99 for March, including THE JUDAS KISS, Tides of Charleston Series!

The week is the brim with great authors and books. It's just the beginning of March. The week of March 12th  Astreas Press is coming. Busy, busy, busy March! All good.

I also have VISION OF DESTINY being released. Should be out within the next week! The third part to Whispers of a Legend! So excited because afterwards I'm pulling them into one book, Whispers of a Legend, Volume 1.  Then its going into print!

Guess what? I'm getting my rights back to Dream Walker! So coming in April I'll have another Indie release. Renaming Dream Walker to Dreamscape. Noticed after Dream Walker was released too many other titles with the same name. If I ever go back to Dream Walker and continue the series, I'll call it Book 1 the Dream Walker Series.

I say if...why? Because I have so much I want to finish before I go back. I love my book Patriot Secrets. It was always set up to continue. I'll let you in on a secret. Ssh! Patriot Secrets was part of a much bigger book. I  divided the manuscript. Had to. Patriot Secrets is over 110,000 words. But it was always part of the plan to have The Winds of Betrayal series. The only problem when I went back to revise The Winds of Betrayal, I decided I needed another book in-between Patriot Secrets and The Winds of Betrayal. I have been working on The Ruse of Love on and off since then.

So The Ruse of Love is next on my list for a couple of reasons. First the Tides of Charleston series. The last book in the Tides of Charleston series, Another Night Falls, has a couple of characters from Patriot Secrets. You see I know what happens in my little brain during my version of the American Revolution. Another Night Falls doesn't need The Ruse of Love, but it will give a better underlying understanding of the whole picture. In the perfect world, I would have had released- Patriot Secrets, The Judas Kiss, The Promise, The Ruse of Love, Another Night Falls, and Winds of Betrayal. Well, I am releasing them in that order except going through different means of publishing.

Then I have to turn back my attention to Whispers of a Legend. The next parts to Whispers comes from the second book, The Time of the Nuxvenom. I have this book in rough draft. It shouldn't take too long to get it to publishing form. I just have to decide whether to continue to release in short installments or the whole book at one time.

I also have another book, Broken Legacy which I love, but I need to have time to work on it. Then my biggest project...Belle of Charleston. I need to write full time. But this is reality and I have to slow down and take one project at a time. The Ruse of Love.

The Ruse of Love follows Jonathan Corbett down to Charles Town in the midst of the turmoil of their war against the British and each other. The Ruse of Love, like Patriot Secrets, will not be a light romance. It couldn't be with the subject matter. Think John Jake...he's the one that inspired me to write this series.

I'm excited today because I'm going down to Rhode Island and hopefully met up with Ruth Cardello and Annette Blair at the RIRW monthly meeting! So I have to much to do.

Have a good one!
